The very best time to water is of course the early morning hours. Watering during the day is not a good idea, this can cause excessive evaporation and can scald the lawn when temperatures are high which would be summer. If you have dew on your lawn in the morning, do not water, this is called the "dew period" which if you water can accelerate disease occurrence.
